Series: Spirit Lead Me
Message: I’m So Stressed
1. Don’t take it LIGHTLY.
A. Stress will STEAL YOUR JOY.
(John 10:10)(NLT) The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My
purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
B. Stress will WEIGH YOU DOWN.
(Proverbs 12:25)(ESV) Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good
word makes him glad.
C. Stress can KILL YOU.
(1 Peter 5:8)(NLT) Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He
prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
2. CONFESS your stress.
(James 5:16)(NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so
that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great
power and produces wonderful results.
(Psalm 25:16-18)(NLT) 16Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in
deep distress. 17 My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them
all! 18 Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.
3. Quit living like the WORLD.
(Romans 12:1-2)(NLT) 1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to
give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a
living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the
way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but
let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then
you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and
4. Remove all UNNECESSARY WEIGHT.
(Hebrews 12:1)(NLT) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge
crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us
down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with
endurance the race God has set before us.
(1 Corinthians 10:23)(NLT) You say, "I am allowed to do anything"--but not
everything is good for you. You say, "I am allowed to do anything"--but not
everything is beneficial.
5. Keep consuming GOD’S WORD.
(Jeremiah 15:16)(NIV) When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy
and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.
(Psalm 94:19)(GNT) Whenever I am anxious and worried, you comfort me
and make me glad.
(Psalm 119:47-50)(ESV) 47for I find my delight in your commandments, which
I love. 48I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and
I will meditate on your statutes. 49Remember your word to your servant, in
which you have made me hope. 50This is my comfort in my affliction, that your
promise gives me life.
(Psalm 1:1-3)(NLT) 1Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the
wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
6. Know the AUTHOR OF PEACE.
(Isaiah 9:6)(NLT) For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The
government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Matthew 11:28-30)(NLT) 28Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are
weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon
you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give
you is light.”
(John 16:33)(NLT) I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because
I have overcome the world."
(Romans 16:20)(NLT) The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your
feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
7. Pray, Pray, Pray.
(Matthew 26:36-46)(NIV) 36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called
Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and
pray.” 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he
began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, “My soul is
overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch
39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My
Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but
as you will.”
40Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you
men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41“Watch and pray so
that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is
42He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for
this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
43When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were
heavy.44So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time,
saying the same thing.
45Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping
and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into
the hands of sinners. 46Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to
God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)(NLT) 16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop
praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who
belong to Christ Jesus.
