Series: Extreme Makeover

Message: Total Devotion

-Love, Loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.

(Exodus 20:1-6) (NLT) 1Then God gave the people all these instructions:

“I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.“You must not have any other god but me.

“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.

(Acts 2:42-47) (NLT) 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

*Most Christians have a DIVIDED LOYALTY.

(James 4:7-8) (NIV) 7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

(Luke 22:42)(NLT) Jesus prayed, “"Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."

(Luke 9:23)(NLT) “Then Jesus said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

*Most Christians practice CONVENIENT SURRENDER.

(Matthew 6:9-13) 9“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need,12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

EKKLESIA – (Greek Word For Church) “CALL OUT”

(Hebrews 10:10)(GWT) We have been set apart as holy because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do by sacrificing his body once and for all.

(Matthew 5:14-16) (NLT) 14Jesus said, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

*Most Christians strive to BLEND IN and never STAND OUT.

(Romans 12:2)(NLT) Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

  1. Calls for YOUR WHOLEHEART.

(Matthew 6:21)(NLT) Jesus said, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

(Matthew 12:28-30) (NLT) 28Jesus was asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. 30And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’

(Proverbs 4:23)(NIV) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

(Matthew 15:8)(NLT) Jesus says, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

(1 Samuel 16:7)(NLT) But the LORD said to Samuel, "Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by the outward appears, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

  1. Calls for ALL OR NOTHING.

(Matthew 6:24)(NLT) Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

(Revelation 3:15-16) (NLT) 15“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!16But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

  1. Calls for SACRIFICE.

(Matthew 16:24-26) (NLT) 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

(Mark 1:16-20) (NLT) 16One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18And they left their nets at once and followed him.

19A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets.  20He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.

(Joshua 24:15)(NLT) But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD."

FINAL TRUTH: When you choose to become ALL IN God will TRANSFORM YOU.

(James 4:10)(NLT) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

(2 Corinthians 5:17)(NIV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
